i. Director of School Nutrition Janette Broda & School Nutrition Staff

During the 10 weeks of summer (with still 1 week left to go), Director of School Nutrition Janette Broda and her staff provided meals for those in need.  The group, through their annual Summer Food Service Program, provided 7 days of meals Monday through Friday, rain or shine, and served approximately 700 children PER DAY.  In total, Ms. Broda and her team will have served over 66,000 meals!  It is important to note that, unlike other programs, the TCS School Nutrition program furnishes hot meals made daily, including fresh local products and, regardless of cost, they are committed to offering the highest quality nutrition possible.  Ms. Broda’s guiding light is to serve only products she would serve to her own children.  This is a testament as to the care the team provides.

In addition to the summer meals, the School Nutrition team delivered 6 weeks’ worth of food bundles and produce, donated by MANNA, to 150 backpack buddy students at their homes.  Volunteers from First United Methodist Church, East Fork Baptist Church, and Grace Brevard Churches assisted.  Ms. Broda noted that a special recognition should go to Cary Hitchcock, who coordinates drivers and designs the routing throughout the county.

We are extremely proud of the entire School Nutrition staff for their hard work and their tireless dedication to our entire community.  Day-in and day-out, year-round, they make a difference in thousands of lives throughout our area.  Their accomplishments are so great, in fact, that they caught the attention of EdNC, who featured them in their August 10th edition.

We encourage you to read the EdNC article, the link to which is currently posted on our website, and join us in giving the sincere thanks Ms. Broda and her team have earned and will continue to earn as they prepare – without any break – to feed our students for the 2026-27 school year.  We also wish to thank First United Methodist Church, East Fork Baptist Church, and Grace Brevard Churches for their continued generosity and successful partnerships with our District.
