Superintendent Dr. Lisa Fletcher will formally recognize Gracelyn Robinson, who this year will achieve an academic milestone that has not previously been attained by any other Transylvania County student.  Gracelyn, a dual-enrolled student, will graduate from both Brevard High School and Blue Ridge Community College, earning an Early Childhood Education infant/toddler care certificate.  Gracelyn utilized the Blue Ridge Career and College Promise Program, which allows students to fulfill their high school graduation requirements while completing college curriculum coursework towards valuable credentials.  The credentials may be used to obtain certificates or an associate degree.  Gracelyn began the program in her junior year and, additionally, took advantage of opportunities, such as internships and part-time employment.  By receiving supplemental training through the Children and Family Resource Center, Gracelyn was able to become qualified to work as a substitute teacher in a childcare center and has completed courses in CPR and SIDS.  You can read more about Gracelyn’s precedent-setting accomplishments in the April 11th Transylvania Times’ story.
