At the June 19 meeting, a sixth candidate was put forth by the Transylvania County Democratic Party to fill the vacant school board seat that was formerly held by Ron Kiviniemi (five candidates were submitted previously). Two candidates, William Hemphill and Marty Griffin, received nominations to be appointed to the open seat. Both candidates received two votes apiece and no majority was reached. The board may discuss and and/or vote again on the current candidates.
