Summer Theme Camps 2023
Transylvania County Schools will hold three Summer Theme Camps June 19–29, 2023 (Monday through Thursday), from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at BES, PFES, and RES. In addition to a particular theme (see below), each camp will incorporate reading, math and field trips. Current 3rd, 4th and 5th graders have applied and every slot is now full. The camps are made possible through ESSER funding.
Brevard Elementary - “Growing to BEE smART" (arts-based)
Pisgah Forest Elementary – “Learning in the Action” (outdoor activities)
Rosman Elementary – “Leaders in Training” (leadership skills)
May is Mental Health Awareness Month
May is National Mental Health Awareness Month and the 2023 theme is “More Than Enough.” The National Alliance on Mental Illness wants all of us to remember the inherent value we each hold, no matter our diagnosis, appearance, socioeconomic status, background, or ability. If all you did today was wake up and get out of bed, that’s more than enough. Showing up, just as you are, for yourself and the people around you, is more than enough. No matter what, you are inherently worthy of more than enough life, love and healing. Mental health issues span a broad range of conditions. Many people are dealing with depression and anxiety, some for the first time. It is important to talk with your primary care physician and with friends and family if you have concerns. It is also important to talk with our children about mental health, including the risk factors, how to practice the steps to stay mentally healthy, and how to recognize when we or someone we love needs help. #breakthestigma
