The superintendent has received a request to name the Transylvania County Schools Bus Garage in honor of Howard Blinn Hyatt who passed away in September 2019. Mr. Hyatt was a teacher in Transylvania County Schools for 36 years, and was considered by many former students to be their favorite teacher. Mr. Hyatt also served as a school bus driver for 33 years, (while teaching and after retirement), coached softball and football, and ran the concession stand for many years. He served his country in both the U.S. Army and Marines.
Board policy 9300, Naming Facilities, describes the criteria for naming school system facilities (see attached). The superintendent will make a recommendation to the board.
The board may take action on the request to name the Transylvania County Schools Bus Garage the Howard B. Hyatt School Transportation Center.
