American Scholastic Achievement Test

In March, thirty BMS students took the American Scholastic Achievement League Challenge.  The test assessed the following areas:

General Knowledge
Language and Literature
History
Geography
Science
Logic, Problem Solving, and Math

Over 26,000 students from American schools all over the world competed in this event.  Out of 100 questions on the test, the national average was 51 correct.  The average score of the thirty BMS students was 60.5.  Twenty-six of the 30 students qualified for certificates (earning a score of 51 or above).  Glenn Palmer (grade 8) is the North Carolina State Champion, and Aaron Green (grade 8) finished second in the state.  The top 26 students (including Glenn and Aaron) will be honored at the PTO Awards Ceremony at BMS at the end of May.

Mountain Amateur Athletic Award

The Rosman High School basketball team was named the 1A/2A Team of the Year at the Mountain Amateur Athletic Club Awards Program at the Grove Park Inn on May 9.  The team was recognized for good character, citizenship, scholarship and athletic skill.  Mic Galloway and Nathan Owens are the coaches.

FFA Tee Shirt Award

For the second year in a row, the Brevard High School FFA has won the national FFA tee shirt award.  Only four designs are picked nationwide each year.  The chapter will receive a portion of the proceeds from the national sales.  This past year netted the BHS chapter over $1000.  Andy VonCanon is the FFA sponsor at BHS.
