2019 Career Academy
The Transylvania County Schools Career Academy for Educators is a professional development opportunity for elementary, middle, and high school educators. It is facilitated via a partnership between Transylvania County Schools (TCS) and Blue Ridge Community College (BRCC). The goal is to collaborate with local businesses/industries to understand the fundamental changes taking place in our local economy, increase understanding of the role of public education and the importance of post-secondary education in local economic development, provide an overview of BRCC and TCS programs available to high school students, and explore ideas of how we can better prepare our students. This year's three-day Career Academy involved 22 educators who visited numerous local industries and businesses. Some of the "behind the scenes" visits included Sylvan Sports, Transylvania Vocational Services, Gaia Herbs, New Excelsior, Praxair, and McNeely's. Dr. Brian Weaver coordinated the Career Academy.
