Dr. Brian Weaver will request board approval of a calendar waiver request for the 2019-2020 school year.  The state calendar law requires that schools begin no earlier than the Monday closest to August 26.  If a waiver is approved, the start date can be one week earlier (no earlier than the Monday closest to August 19).  Transylvania County Schools qualifies for the waiver.  A waiver would allow Transylvania to continue having a mid-week start, a practice that has received much positive feedback from parents, staff, and students.
A motion is in order to approve the calendar waiver request for the 2019-2020 school year.
