Approval of Expenditure for Technology Infrastructure
At a recent meeting, the Board was informed about the availability of e-rate and unused Race to the Top grant funds for technology infrastructure upgrades. The deadline for systems to apply for the funds is April 16, 2015. Transylvania County Schools is eligible for $530,550 based on ADM numbers. The Department of Public Instruction has provided a list of approved vendors, and the technology staff is developing a mini-bid to determine which of the vendors will be doing work for us. The superintendent recommends that the Board approve spending up to $530,555 on wireless networking equipment and professional services to upgrade to high density wireless for the schools. The approved funds will be used to procure equipment and services off the convenience contracts resulting from the State’s RFP #40-IT00111-15. The Department of Public Instruction will allot funds to the LEA once our E-Rate Form 471 has been submitted and certified.
A motion is in order to approve the superintendent’s recommendation.
