Meals on Wheels Feinstein Challenge

Six county schools participated in the fourth annual “Feinstein Challenge” Food Drive.  Students from PFES, BMS, RES, RMS, RHS, and TCH donated 1,686 food items for distribution to Sharing House and the Salvation Army.  The Feinstein Foundation will contribute cash to the Brevard Meals on Wheels program in exchange for these food items.  As in the past, a $100 award from an anonymous donor was given to the school that donated the most food items per student.  This year’s winner was T. C. Henderson Elementary School.

Contributions to Cystic Fibrosis Research

Brevard Middle School has contributed a total of $1,338 to the Change for a Cure cystic fibrosis fund.  The total for Colin Fenner's team, HopefulOnes, stands at $30,200.  The total for the walk is over $62,000.

EOP Awards

The Transylvania County Association of Educational Office Personnel awarded its annual scholarship to Nicholas Roberts, BHS, at the TCAEOP Awards Banquet in April.  Nick is the son of Rick and Julie Roberts of Pisgah Forest.  Nick plans to attend Appalachian State University this fall.  At the dinner, new officers were installed for the next two-year term.  Incoming officers for 2007-2009 are Karla Mather, President; Debbie Keever, Vice President; Melissa Robinson, Secretary; and Jenny Owenby, Treasurer.  Brevard High Principal, Doug Odom, was named Administrator of the Year, and Jill Barger, Plant Operations, was named EOP of the Year.

Relei for Life

Rosman Elementary School sold leis to collect money for the American Cancer Society. They titled their campaign "Re'lei" for Life."  Madison Allen, who is in first grade at RES, is the youngest cancer survivor in Transylvania County.  The drive raised $2,006.30.  The event culminated in a celebration assembly and a walk around the track for students.
