Superintendent Dr. Lisa Fletcher will formally recognize Brevard High School staff and students, as follows:
i. The NCHSAA Swimming & Diving State Championships were held February 11th through the 14th in Raleigh. Brevard High School Senior Josh Poché won double gold in the 200m Freestyle and the 100m Freestyle. He was also named as the 4A Most Outstanding Swimmer. Senior Julia Sherrill, who signed to continue her swimming career at Iona University last November, secured gold in the 50m Freestyle.
On February 20th, Sophomore Savada Kitchen took less than one minute to defeat her opponent and become the 1-4A 185 Wrestling State Champion. Savada is the very first women’s wrestling champion at BHS.
These athletes have proudly represented the Blue Devils by demonstrating that they are the best at what they do in the entire state. We are extremely proud of our State Champions and ask you to join us in celebrating them!
ii. BHS students Haiden Cagle, Brennan Gaglione, and TJ Jordan were at the school farm with teacher Dan Harris when they heard sounds of distress emanating from a nearby residential area. The students and Mr. Harris immediately ran to the location and encountered a woman whose clothing was on fire. They extinguished the flames and offered their assistance.
On February 27th, Mr. Harris and these students were recognized for demonstrated character and bravery by County Manager Jaime Laughter and Sheriff Chuck Owenby. We wish to further honor them tonight for their stunning display of human compassion and heroism.
