Special Called Meeting

Tuesday, December 3, 2024 - 6:00pm

The Transylvania County Board of Education will hold a special called organizational meeting on Tuesday, December 3, 2024 at 6:00 p.m. in the boardroom of the Morris Education Center, located at 225 Rosenwald Lane, Brevard. The purpose of the meeting is to swear in newly elected members, elect officers, and receive training on rights and responsibilities for new and current members. The meeting is open to the public. Doors will open at 5:30 p.m. The oath of office and election of officers portions of the meeting will be livestreamed and may be viewed at youtube.com/user/tcsnc.

Transylvania County Clerk of Superior Court, Kristi Brown, will administer the Oath of Office to newly elected Board of Education members Greg Cochran, Ruth Harris, and Ricky Lambert.

N.C.G.S. § 115C-41 requires all local boards of education to have an organizational meeting no later than 60 days after the swearing in of members following election or appointment. At the organizational meeting, the members of all boards shall elect one or their members as chairman for a period of one year, or until his successor is elected and qualified. The Transylvania County Board of Education has traditionally elected a chair and vice chair at its first meeting in December.

The board may take action to elect officers for 2025 at this time.
